That One Record

There are records in my collection that are purposely used to whip feet and then there are those that instantly talk to me no matter if I drop it during a set or just chilling.

Lenny White - Didn't Know About Love (Till I Found You) is that song for me!

I can still remember the Night Rides & Slow Jams episode where I first dropped this song in 2018! Episode 15! I was, in true Daryle fashion, using the episode as a love note to get through to someone from my past, lol. As I was pulling songs (meaning listening to my records to look for the perfect songs), I came across this record that was in my new stack of a collection I'd bought but hadn't listened to yet!

There it was Lenny White - Attitude! I heard a couple songs I’d use in a live set or even a future episode, but it was until I turned the record to side two, song 2 that I found Night Rides gold! Those piano chords by Bernard Wright and bassline by Marcus Miller had me hooked on first needle drop! I had to play the intro of that song at least five times before I got to the verse! Perfection! By the time I finally gave that verse a taste Keeley Curtis’ vocals was the icing on the cake! I appreciate songs with dual meanings and this song could either be for your special someone or God! The lyric, “I never knew how happy I could be, till your precious love came along and rescued me! Didn’t know bout love till I found you” come on man!

Funny the year after this I actually met someone that was the true meaning of this song and although we aren’t together today, this song will always have her beauty, loving nature, and the way I esteem her all over it! Hopefully one day I’ll experience this type of feeling again, but until then I’ll always have this song!
