Out of all the records I have the one that means the most to me is Agent K (Kaidi Tatham) - Feed The Cat released in 2002! I used to tape Jahmal Ahmad’s weekend show on WCLK 91.9 in Atlanta and this particular night I fell asleep somewhere mid taping. I heard this voice in my sleep saying “ladies first” and these broken beat drums (didn’t know what that was called at that time)! Thinking I heard a song in my sleep I jumped up and hoped on to my computer and and clicked my reason redrum my homie Blue had downloaded on my computer hahahaha I started drumming it out only to realize it was playing out the radio so I checked the tape and it was recording! Yes! It was!
As soon as Jamal said who that artist was, I stopped that tape and tried to look this Agent K guy up and found nothing! I listened to that song all night because I’d never heard anything like that before! The next morning I went to Moods Music and asked Darryl if he’d heard of this guy and he handed me the cd! I studied this record every opportunity I had to listen to it! It was a sound I’d never heard before and I loved it!
From the intro hearing those meows on this outer space sound kept my attention and then the second track hit, Orbit! Hearing those energetic congas on that synth with all of those sound effects happening blew my mind! Hahahahaha I love music so much, but hearing this was like having a secret that blew your mind! The crazy thing was when I heard, “Feed The Cat” and “Rideaway Rideaway” those high hats were a mastered version of what I was playing with on Reason.
Then it happened, “Thy Lord”! Whew! Listen this song is crazy! I can’t describe the way that drum pattern took me over! It used to be my “smoking song” because I’d always hear other things in that song! Ladies (refer to the first paragraph)! Hands is a cold song! Man just listen to the album hahahaha

When I got the opportunity to meet Kaidi at Moods Music in 2016 we had a great conversation about this album and even went record shopping solidifing how cool he was to me! It helped that that his band mate and brother Daz I Kue knew me from his time in Atlanta and vouched how every time I went to his studio I’d ask about how Kaidi worked in the studio! Hahahaha

So I guess I’ve waxed poetic enough, this by far is the record coming with me to the island! Whenever I get the opportunity to share anything from the album it’s a treat! Taste this short clip from SoHo House West Hollywood!
